Hollis said the proposed $4 million plan will ensure the football team will have the resources in the future to remain competitive in the newly aligned Big Ten conference.

“I think we need to do something to enhance the process of where we are at right now,” Hollis said.

The proposed plan will offer compensation in three main areas: staff, operations and capitol projects.

According to Hollis, staff compensation includes the number of staff working and the amount they are paid, while operations includes travel, recruiting and day-to-day campus activities. Capitol projects will ensure that student athletes continue to have up-to-date facilities, such as replacing the turf and the planned north end zone project.

All funds for the project will come directly from the athletics department. According to Hollis, the majority of athletics department revenue is funded through ticket revenue, but it is looking into ancillary activities such as concessions and sponsorships.

“What we’re going through right now is a process of identifying sources of revenues that can be driven by intercollegiate athletics that will help in generating the funds,” Hollis said.

The approval of the budget will depend on revenues fitting the plan laid out by Hollis and Simon.

“It takes revenues and it’s our job to ensure our coaches have as many resources as possible in order to achieve that level of championship success — while not being a strain on the university,” Hollis said.
