MSU professor Cris Sullivan has been chosen to grace the One Love Foundation’s national advisory counsel. Sullivan, who also is the director of MSU Research Consortium on Gender-based Violence, was chosen in view of her contribution and research in the area of violence against women.

The One Love Foundation was established by family members of Yeardley Reynolds Love, who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, to help people who are facing domestic violence.

Talking about her role on the counsel, Sullivan said she would be sharing her expertise on helping college students deal with domestic violence, amongst others.

“The One Love Foundation is looking for my expertise in implementing prevention and intervention strategies on college campuses,” Sullivan said. “Their foundation is focused specifically on the age group of 16-24, with college campuses being one of their prime targets for intervention.”

Sullivan said a part of her position would involve keeping a track of happenings all around the U.S.

“My role is to help them identify what is already happening around the country and how their efforts can most effectively add to what is currently being done,” she said.

Managing Director of One Love Foundation Seth McDonnell expressed happiness on the inclusion of the newest member on the counsel and is excited about what Sullivan could add to the organization.

“When her name was mentioned to us, our initial reaction was that she sounds wonderful,” McDonnell said. “She was a natural fit for us because of her reputation in the field.”

Another Managing Director at One Love Foundation, Michael Meech, said the entry of Sullivan is bound to expand the counsel in many ways.

“It is a great opportunity to diversify the group of experts on our advisory counsel,” Meech said. “Her passion for the cause and a long history of working in the area of violence against women made her a great choice. Her passion is a huge asset for us.”
