Marathon of Majors hits Bessey Hall tonight

March 19, 2013

The Undergraduate University Division, or UUD, will be hosting the Marathon of Majors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight at the first floor classroom wing of Bessey Hall.

At the event there will be academic advisors from the MSU colleges and academic support offices on hand to answer any questions students might have. The event is a great opportunity for students to learn information about potential major options and ask questions to academic and major advisors all at the same place and time, UUD Academic Advisor Sandra Eagan-Hill said.

“It’s like one-stop shopping for students who are looking for what their options may be (with majors),” Eagan-Hill said.

No-preference freshman Lindsey Ressler entered MSU not knowing what she wanted to pursue as a future career, but has started to narrow down her options.

“Part of my problem when I was applying to school was that I really didn’t know all that was out there,” she said. “When I went on college tours and things, kids would stand up and say majors that I’ve never even heard of before.”

Ressler said her adviser has been encouraging her to go to the Marathon of Majors.

“I took a communications class last semester and that was really interesting to me,” Ressler said. “There are still a few other majors I’d like to explore though.

“I think that’s really the best way to learn about what MSU has to offer as far as majors.”
