ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government, passed a slew of 10 bills Thursday night, ranging from plans to help student communication with professors, to a bill to increase the student tax by $0.50 to provide safe evening transportation.
ASMSU general assembly members voted to pass a bill to increase the student tax as well with implementing a Safe Ride program in place.
The increase of tax will be from $18 to $18.50 per semester per student, but undergraduate students will have the opportunity to vote on the increase during the elections in April.
The Safe Ride program would provide free transportation home to any ASMSU tax-paying student on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., Vice President of Finance and Operations Kyle Clifton said.
“At night there are not really ways to get back unless you get a taxi and not everyone has the money for that,” Clifton said.
Another bill passed would result in ASMSU engaging in conversation with MSU to implement a mid-semester evaluation form for all classes during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
“I think this is a great idea,” Lyman Briggs College ASMSU representative James Conwell said. “I think this is a great way for students to impact what they are learning.
ASMSU also had a little fun by passing a bill to officially cheer on the MSU Men’s basketball team, which will support the team during their efforts during the upcoming 2013 NCAA tournament.
“Just wanted to say ‘Go Green’ to the public,” College of Communication Arts and Sciences ASMSU representative Abbie Newton said.
