Apartment fire under investigation, injured firefighter back to work

February 4, 2013

The East Lansing firefighter injured during a Thursday night fire at Ville Montee Apartments, 241 Rampart Way, is back to his normal work duties, East Lansing fire Lt. Leo Allaire said.

An investigation still is underway to determine the cause of the blaze that damaged a total of eight apartments. Six apartments had damage because of both fire and smoke, while two others only had smoke damage, Allaire said.

He said the cost of the damage still is being calculated, and the investigation likely will be completed in the next few days.

Allaire said a water line in the basement also ruptured during the incident, resulting in minimal water damage.

Members of the American Red Cross were present at the fire Thursday night, and typically provide several days of accommodations for the people impacted by circumstances such as this, Allaire said.
