Attending a school with so many programs rated as some of the best in the nation, MSU students are trying to turn a first-class education into a professional career.

Members of MSU’s Department of Supply Chain Management and Broad China Business Society had the opportunity to do just that at the 2012 Greater China Supply Chain Forum on Friday at the Mariott Hotel, 300 M.A.C. Ave.

The day-long forum featured several speakers ranging from MSU professors to executives of large companies, such as Delphi and Logic Solutions. Speakers gave presentations on numerous topics, including risk management, logistics, sustainability and international business.

As recent studies have been released projecting sluggish job markets for new college graduates, supply chain management junior Jingshi Ren said forums, such as the Greater China Supply Chain Forum, are very beneficial for future job hunts.

“(We can) collect our knowledge from the class with the knowledge from the actual working environment,” Ren said. “They can get a deep look at supply chain management because (this forum) covers almost all aspects of supply chain management.”

On the business end, Milan Stevanovich, who was in attendance on behalf of Renewable Energy Consultants, LLC, said he would enjoy working in business in China and he visits many colleges to create collaboration with students.

“Students can collaborate with not just other students but faculty too and those who are currently in entrepreneurial endeavors, so it’s multi-fold at this conference,” Stevanovich said. “Everyone’s busy so you need to pick and choose your conferences wisely and ensure you’re covering as much ground as possible.”

As a college student, it can be hard at times to interact with business professionals, but supply chain management senior Kevin Ye said this event helps the students to network in their desired industry.

Ye also said students have to the chance to learn about upcoming challenges that will help when looking for jobs.

“This event (helps us) see what the professionals think,” Ye said. “This is a great event, it doesn’t benefit just the students but it benefits the college as well.”
