An investigation remains in its infancy as an MSU student works to recover from several injuries following an assault early last Tuesday morning in the 600 block of Grand River Avenue.
Advertising junior Brandon Carmack said he was kicked, beaten and stabbed with either scissors or keys. Carmack told media he believes his aggressors are members of the MSU hockey team.
He told The State News on Thursday he did not exactly know how the assailants were tied to the team, nor could he identify specific players.
Calls to the MSU athletics department have not been returned.
Carmack has a broken nose, broken ribs, a puncture wound and multiple bruises, which required medical attention including five stitches in his lip and several staples in his head.
Brandon Carmack was on pain medication during the interview, but his mother, Barb Carmack affirmed his claims in an email saying the individuals who brought the assault “left him for dead.”
East Lansing police Capt. Jeff Murphy said Friday police are investigating the incident, but he did not release any more information regarding the incident or possible suspects.
Police officials could not be reached for comment Monday night.
