Face Time with Stacy Boyles

July 2, 2012

Although she has no prior experience as an actor, Stacy Boyles found her way onto the TV screens of people throughout the country.

Boyles, who is an MSU alumna, currently stars in a national commercial for Domino’s Pizza that aired June 21.

Boyles, who works at Domino’s Pizza as a chef, was selected for a role in the production as part of an initiative of the franchise to make the company’s employees the stars of its commercials, rather than professional actors and actresses.

“It’s kind of what Domino’s is,” said Chris Brandon, who is a spokesperson for the company. “(Our commercials are) done in a very honest, transparent, open-door sort of way. Instead of putting paid actors on there to pretend that they’re Domino’s people.”

What was your role within the commercial?
“I play one of the chefs. In the ad, I’m talking about our high-quality ingredients and the really unique flavoring that makes our sandwiches so delicious.”

How did you end up starring in the commercial?
“I work at Domino’s Pizza. If you’ve been following our company for the past couple years, we’ve really taken an authentic approach to talking about our products and the company.”

How does it feel to be in a national commercial?
“It’s definitely a unique experience for me. The test kitchen is kind of a secret place at the Domino’s World Resource Center. We’re usually kind of behind the scenes. To be in front of the cameras is definitely a new experience, but it’s really rewarding. I’m getting emails and texts and phone calls from people saying they’ve seen me on TV, and can they get my autograph, so it’s kind of funny in that regard.”

What was it like filming it?
“The day of shooting the commercial, that was an experience too because I’m not an actor. In the morning, I was handed the script and basically had to learn these lines in a few minutes. I’m not an actor, so that’s not something I do every day. If you’ve been watching our ads over the last couple of years, they’re from the heart; they’re ad-libbed. The script was really just a starting point to start the conversation.”

Do you see yourself doing another commercial?
“It would depend on if the advertising team wanted me to play that role again. Of course, I’d be happy to talk about Domino’s products anytime. I’m so proud of the work that’s been done at Domino’s, but that’s not really my decision.”
