Frank Ambrose, one of the environmental activists convicted for participation in the Agriculture Hall arson New Year’s Eve in 1999, had his sentence reduced by about three years on April 9 in the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, a court spokeswoman said.
Originally sentenced in 2008 to nine years in federal prison, Ambrose was rewarded with the reduction after working as an FBI informant in various cases.
Among those Ambrose helped put behind bars was his former wife Marie Mason, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison in 2009 for her involvement in the MSU arson case.
The arson, fueled by protests to the university’s plant research, caused more than $1 million in damage and took about a year to repair.
