Michigan-based band Elliot Street Lunatic will perform at 6 p.m. Friday at The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, celebrating the release of their CD, “Ghost Town Lullabies.”

When Elon Parker heard one of his favorite bands would be performing nearby, he instantly knew he had to be there.

The Lansing resident said he plans to attend Elliot Street Lunatic’s CD release party Friday at The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing.

“I was probably one of the first ones to buy the ticket,” Parker said. “I’ve heard all the songs, (and) I know they are going to sound great.”

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will celebrate the four-member indie-rock band’s latest album, “Ghost Town Lullabies,” which guitar player and vocalist Jason Marr said represents the progress the band has made.

“When you listen to the album, you can tell that we’ve grown so much since the first album,” he said.

Parker said he met several of the band members while they were attending the same high school and has been a fan of the Laingsburg, Mich., group since it formed in about 2006.

“I continued to like their music as they progressively evolved into what they are today,” Parker said.

Although each member has very different taste in music, Marr said they take inspiration from some of the same acts, such as The Beatles, Radiohead and U2.

They typically travel throughout the state to perform, but have done tours throughout the country as well.

“Any big city in Michigan that you can name, we probably played it,” Marr said.

In order to make Friday’s show special, Marr said he and the other group members invited many bands — all Michigan-based — with whom they have grown close to perform with them.

The other bands performing at the event include rock groups Alco, Good Weather for Airstrikes and The Rival, punk band Tiger! Tiger! and Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers, a folk act.

“When we booked the lineup for the show, we wanted to be able to play with all our best friends, so we picked all those bands because we play with them all the time,” Marr said.

Jeff Twomley, the drummer for Alco, said his band will be performing multiple new songs at the show.

“We’re all really happy to be able to support (Elliot Street Lunatic) and hopefully make the show a hit,” he said. “We kind of wanted to have something new and exciting to bring to the fans that were coming to see us too to keep everyone interested.”

Parker said he is looking forward to sharing his love for Elliot Street Lunatic and the other bands on the bill with the rest of the audience Friday.

“I really like that everybody else likes them,” he said. “It’s also fun listening to everyone else’s thoughts and opinions and seeing how similar they are to mine.”

Although Friday will be the last show for both the band’s bass player and drummer, Marr said that doesn’t mean the group will cease performing.

“I think the band will always be around in some form,” he said. “I think we’ll be playing for a while, especially with an album that cost us every penny we had. We’ve got to make that back.”
