It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending, and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.
Spartan Idol:
The top 10 performers have been chosen, and it’s time to crown the winner of Spartan Idol. The final competition will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday at the International Center.
The show also will feature games for the audience and the chance to win prizes, such as MSU T-shirts.
Doors will open at 8:45 p.m. for students looking for a first-row seat.
The show is free to MSU students plus one guest.

Hawk Island Snow Park jam:
The Hawk Island Snow Park Inaugural Open House and Rail Jam will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the site of the future Hawk Island Snow Park, 1601 E. Cavanaugh Road, in Lansing.
The Hawk Island Action Sports Operations Committee will feature a meet-and-greet and, if the weather allows, snowboarding demonstrations on various obstacles.
Students can bring their snowboarding gear and embark on a personal walking tour of the park to get a preview of the snowboarding season ahead.
The cost is free.

The Global Festival:
Students can travel the world in just one day at the Global Festival, which will be held from 12-5 p.m. Sunday in the Union.
The event will feature displays and presentations created by students to exhibit their native countries, as well as performances of traditional music and dances. Attendees also can visit the World Gift Shop which will be filled with a variety of gifts, including international jewelry, clothing and art. International treats also can be sampled at the Global Café.
The cost is free.

An Evening with George Gershwin:
The College of Music will sponsor “Got Rhythm — An Evening with George Gershwin” at 8 p.m.Friday at the Music Building Auditorium, presenting the best of 1930s American composer George Gershwin.

The concert will feature vocalist Sunny Wilkinson and Walter Verdehr on violin, as well as Ralph Votapek, Deborah Moriarty, Derek Polischuk and Ron Newman on piano.
Kenneth Prouty, assistant professor of musicology and jazz studies, also will be giving a preview lecture before the concert at 7:15 p.m.
Tickets are free for students, $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens.

Yoga Jamboree:
The Medical Yoga Club of MSU will be hosting a Yoga Jamboree from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Lake Superior Room on the third floor of the Union.
The club will be leading participants in yoga of all types to help them achieve good health and relaxation with simple, non-strenuous exercises.
Prior experience is not required, and the event is free.
