Weekend roundup: Oct. 7-9

It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending, and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.

Girls’ Night Out:
This all-ages event, which takes place Oct. 8, will start out with a fashion show at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Marriott at University Place, 300 M.A.C. Ave.

Festivities such as shopping and dining will continue until 9 p.m. at participating local businesses, including American Apparel, 115 E. Grand River Ave., Jeanologie XX/XY Boutique, 303 M.A.C. Ave., and Mad Eagle, 301 M.A.C. Ave.

There also will be a student fashion showcase at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles St.

“Bare: A Pop Opera”:
This performance, directed by media arts and technology senior Dennis Corsi, will run at 8 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 9.

This modern twist on the classic story “Romeo and Juliet” addresses topics such as drugs, religion and same-sex relationships.

The cost to attend this event, which will be held in the RCAH Theatre, is $7 for students, except for the Oct. 9 show, which is free for students, and $10 for all others.

Autumn Fest:
The East Lansing Farmer’s Market will host its annual Autumn Fest from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Oct. 9 in Valley Court Park, 201 Hillside Court.

The free event will feature autumn-inspired food, live music, complimentary donuts and cider, pumpkin carving and children’s activities, such as face painting.

Harvest Music Fest:
Local bands The Brave Youth and Kelly Deanne and the Octagon Band will perform Friday at the Harvest Music Fest.

The cost to attend this all-ages event, which takes place at Riverview Church, 3585 Willoughby Road, in Holt, Mich., is $10 per person or $25 per family.

Mary Flower:
Blues Music Awards Acoustic Artist of the Year nominee Mary Flower will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at Ten Pound Fiddle, 855 Grove St.

Tickets cost $5 for students, $12 for Ten Pound Fiddle members and $15 for all others.
