Weekend roundup: Oct. 21-23

It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending, and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.

1. Lansing Symphony Orchestra: Sunny Swings the American Songbook:

The Lansing Symphony will be hosting Sunny Wilkinson and her jazz trio for a concert at 8 p.m. Friday at Wharton Center. The concert will feature pieces by classic composers and lyricists Stephen Sondheim, Duke Ellington and George and Ira Gershwin. Wilkinson is considered by some to be one of the most inventive and flexible singers of her generation, toying with rhythm and tone throughout her vocal pieces.

Tickets range from $15 to $40.

2. Club X-Cel‘s DayGlow East Lansing Afterparty:

After Friday’s DayGlow event at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, students can head to the official afterparty at Club X-Cel, 224 S. Washington Square, in Lansing.

The events will feature DayGlow performer DJ David Solano and host Emir Duru.

Tickets cost $10 for those ages 18-20 and $5 for those 21 and older.

3. “Paranormal Activity 3:”

In the spirit of Halloween, students can check out the third sequel of “Paranormal Activity,” an American supernatural horror film that hits the theaters this weekend.

The Thursday night premiere sold out at NCG Eastwood Cinemas, 2500 Showtime Drive, in Lansing, but there is still time to get tickets to Friday and Saturday’s shows.

Student tickets at the theater cost $7.50, adult tickets are $8.50 and senior and child tickets are $6.50.

4. Young Dan Tucker:

Rock group Young Dan Tucker will be performing at 8 p.m. Saturday at Mac’s Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing.

The up-and-coming band features aggressive vocals and guitar.

Also performing will be Failures Union, Procession and The Guest Stars.

Tickets are $7.

5. Over The Edge Saturdays:

Music venue The Loft and radio station 94.1 The Edge are teaming up to present Over the Edge Saturdays, which this week will feature metal band Know Lyfe.

The group will be performing at 6 p.m. at The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing. Additional performers include A Sky Lit Letter, Seneca Falls, Crackjaw, New Venice and Night of 1000 Knives.

Tickets are $12 at the door for guests 21 and older and $8 for guests 18 and under.
