Construction activity on a new mixed-use building in downtown East Lansing, St. Anne Lofts, officially has begun, developers say.
Kris Elliott, developer of the St. Anne project, said the building would hold 32 one- and two-bedroom lofts, as well as retail space on the first floor, and will be fully completed and ready for occupancy in
July 2012.
Features of the building will include a fitness facility, a community lounge and a national restaurant chain with outdoor seating.
Lofts in the building will have kitchen islands, laundry centers, built-in closet systems and large windows. Prices of the lofts have not yet been determined.
The project has been in the works since 2004.
Elliott said he and members of East Lansing city staff, particularly East Lansing Planning and Community Development Director Tim Dempsey, are excited to see the project finally come to fruition.
The location formerly held The Post Bar, 213 Ann St., and two other retail spaces.
Elliott, who also owns The Post Bar, said the bar will not be reopening after completion of the project.
The process of clearing out the location was started late last week.
“We had a fantastic eight-year run and made thousands of great friends and loyal customers,” Elliott said.
