The Michigan State University Children’s Health Initiative was awarded the $10,000 Community Impact Grant.
The grant was established to help organizations fund projects that will impact their communities. It was awarded by the Junior League of Lansing, a volunteer group of women who promote volunteerism, develop the potential of women and improve the Lansing community.
Ann Vogelsang, community vice president of the Junior League of Lansing, said the MSU Children’s Health Initiative was awarded the grant because its project fit the focus of the grant and members of the Junior League were impressed with its application.
The money from the grant will be used to renovate the waiting room in the pediatric sub-specialty clinic at Sparrow Hospital, 1215 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing.
The goal is to make the waiting room more comfortable and appealing to patients, Vogelsang said.
New infusion chairs, play tables and artwork will be purchased. It is important to make the waiting room comfortable because patients and their families spend a lot of their time there, Vogelsang said.
“(The grant) enables us to be able to provide care in a more cheery environment for children,” said Dele Davies, Department of Pediatrics and Human Development chair.
Davies said the renovations should take about three months.
