When members of the long-standing MSU Ballroom Dance Team decided they wanted to have additional opportunities to compete, they created their own team: the Spartan Ballroom Dance Team.

The team has spent the entire spring semester preparing for competitions across the country — including at the University of Notre Dame and at the University of Michigan — and members said they enjoy the experience that comes along with competing against others.

“Ballroom dancing is a tough sport because it’s subjective,” said journalism junior Nick Mizesko, who is president of the team. “It’s tough because if you don’t get (a callback), you can’t let it get to you — you have to move to the next dance.”

Mizesko said the competition at University of Notre Dame helped the team iron out major issues to better prepare them for U-M, which the team considers one of the biggest competitions of the season.

“I think everybody on our team did a great job at Notre Dame, and they all have worked hard to get to this point,” he said.
