MSU wrestling head coach Tom Minkel has been appointed to be one of six members serving on the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Beginning in September, Minkel’s term will last four years, and his responsibilities will include serving as a member of the games committee who will administer the Division I Wrestling Championships.
“The NCAA Wrestling Committee steers the course of college wrestling,” Minkel said in a release on the MSU Athletics Department website. “It’s a four-year assignment, so I’m looking forward in getting my feet wet and really understanding what the role of the committee is. Hopefully I can be a part of some positive direction for the sport of wrestling.”
In addition to the NCAA committee, Minkel has served in other similar positions, including being the president for USA Wrestling from 1986-90. He also was an athlete’s representative for the U.S. Olympic Committee from 1984-86.
