A man has been arranged for one count of first-degree home invasion after being found in possession of several stolen items including MSU textbooks, East Lansing Capt. Tom Johnstone said.
The Dec. 30 home invasion might only be the tip of the iceberg for charges against 24-year-old Oxford, Mich. resident, Brandon Joseph McKay. Johnstone said he believes McKay is responsible for other home invasions that have occurred during MSU’s winter break.
“More than likely he’s been involved in several other case around the city, but that will take some time,” Johnstone said. “Because of a similar method and similar items taken, it’s a good possibility they’re related.”
The stolen items in McKay’s possession included two backpacks, 16 textbooks, two watches and a calculator. Johnstone said he does not know the value of the items.
Johnstone said stealing textbooks can provide robbers with quick cash.
“Around East Lansing, textbooks are taken quite often,” Johnstone said. “It obviously has a quick turn around time and (is an) easy value for someone to sell something back.”
The maximum sentence for the charge is five years in prison, Johnstone said.
