State Senate leaders on Thursday announced the filling of top positions for the legislative body’s committees and subcommittees.

In a press release, Sen. Majority Leader-elect Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, and Sen. Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer, D-East Lansing, disclosed the names of senators who would head up 25 committees and 16 subcommittees.

Sen.-elect Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, will chair the Senate’s higher education appropriations subcommittee. Schuitmaker previously served in the state House before term-limiting this year.

Whitmer, who in early November was named Senate Minority Leader, was appointed as minority vice chair of the Government Operations Committee.
