A driver in an accident that killed five and injured an MSU student was found to have traces of marijuana in his system, the Green Oak Charter Township Police Department said.
A toxicology report shows Okemos resident Matthew Kolstoe tested positive for cannabinoids and THC. Lyman Briggs freshman Humphrey Petersen-Jones was the only survivor from the vehicle that crossed the median on US-23 and collided with another car.
Police determined the car’s speed was a factor, but do not know if marijuana was a factor. Washtenaw County Chief Medical Examiner Bader Cassin said traces of marijuana could be seen on a toxicology report up to two weeks after a person comes in contact with it.
