The Chemistry Building briefly caught fire Saturday evening, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.
A 26-year-old male MSU student was working with potassium in a metal canister, creating a spark that ignited a sheet of paper, McGlothian-Taylor said.
The student was working along the north wall when the fire broke out. He extinguished the fire, though the wall and ceiling tires were blackened. The East Lansing Fire Department verified the fire had been completely extinguished, and the student followed all proper procedures.
