ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.

Currently, MSU policy stipulates a student cannot exceed 20 credits in class retakes and cannot retake a course if a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher was achieved. Additionally, the university does not limit the number of times a student may retake a particular class.

The committee’s bill recommends the policy keep its 20 credit limit, but says the university should not place a GPA threshold on whether a student should be able to retake a course. The bill also recommends the university limit the number of times a student can retake a particular course to two times, meaning a student could take the course a maximum of three times. The bill includes a provision that would recommend all grades obtained for a course appear on a student’s transcript and that the highest grade be factored into the cumulative GPA.

If passed by the full assembly, ASMSU representatives will make the suggestions to the University Committee on Academic Policy, which has been discussing possible changes to the current retake policy, CAP chairperson Henry Reinart said.
