The MSU wrestling program announced Wednesday that six student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to wrestle for the Spartans in the 2010-11 season.
Sean McMurray (Portage, Ind.); Kamron Jackson (South Haven, Mich.); Nick McDiarmid (Hartland, Mich.); Nick Proctor (Neuqua Valley, Ill.); John Rizqallah (Allegan, Mich.); and Nick Humes (Stevensville-Lakeshore, Mich.) will come to East Lansing in the fall 2010.
At Indiana’s Portage High School, McMurray won back-to-back state championships in the 152-pound weight class and also was named a 2008 Cadet Freestyle All-American. He is projected to wrestle in the 157-pound weight class at MSU.
Jackson also is a back-to-back state champion, winning titles in 2007 and 2008 for South Haven High School. Last year, Jackson wrestled for North Idaho College, placing third at the Junior College Nationals in the 184-pound class.
McDiarmid, from Fowlerville High School, was the 2009 Michigan state champion in the 215-pound weight class.
Proctor (160), Rizqallah (171) and Humes (140) each finished state runner-up in their respective weight classes.
Rizqallah’s brother, Joe, currently is a sophomore in the 285-pound weight class for MSU.
“I really think this is an extraordinary group of young men,” head coach Tom Minkel said. “They have had great success in high school and they are, to a man, a great fit here. I’m looking forward to them as Spartans.”
