Greek Tragedy play debuts tonight

October 12, 2009

The MSU Department of Theatre will premiere the play “Trojan Women” tonight. The play is a Greek tragedy set in ancient Greece and Troy in the fifth century B.C.

The play details the lives of women left in the city of Troy, while their husbands have left to fight a war against the Greeks.

The play will be a fusion of two different types of styles: Greek tragedy and Japanese Kabuki theater. To meld these two styles, the Department of Theatre brought in director David Furumoto from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The show premieres 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Arena Theatre in the basement of the Auditorium and runs through Sunday. Student tickets are $8 and general admission is $12.
