MSU prof earns conservation award

Jim Detjen, an MSU journalism professor, was given the 2009 Conservation Communicator of the Year award for his work supporting conservation issues in Michigan.

He was honored at the Michigan United Conservation Clubs’ 2009 annual convention on June 20-21.

Detjen was recognized for his work in training journalists and journalism students to write about conservation issues in the state and the world. He also was honored for his influences on outdoor journalism.

Detjen is also the director of the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism, which he launched in 1999 and has created more than 12 courses in conservation and environmental reporting.
