Sexual assault case sent to circuit court

April 15, 2009

The case of the man arrested last month in connection with two sexual assaults has been sent to circuit court.

Benjamin Waltz, 28, waived his right to a preliminary examination last week on one count of second-degree criminal sexual assault, which carries a 15-year maximum prison sentence, and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carries a two-year maximum sentence.

Waltz is accused of inappropriately grabbing an MSU student and ripping the shirt of another MSU student in late March. East Lansing police said Waltz threatened the second victim with a knife. Neither victim was injured during the two assaults. Waltz is scheduled to be arraigned in Lansing’s 30th Circuit Court on Wednesday, a court clerk said. Waltz is being held in the Ingham County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
