Indianapolis — Kalin Lucas converted a three-point play with 48.1 seconds remaining to give MSU a 63-60 lead as the MSU men’s basketball team rallied from a 13-point first half deficit to beat No. 3-seed Kansas 67-62 on Friday night at Lucas Oil Stadium to advance to the Elite Eight.

The sophomore guard had 18 points and seven assists, while senior center Goran Suton had 20 points and nine rebounds for the No. 2-seed Spartans (29-6 overall), who play Louisville (31-5), the top-seeded team in the NCAA Tournament, in the Midwest Regional final at 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

The Spartans were down five with 3:26 to go, but sophomore guard Durrell Summers tapped in a rebound to make it 60-57. A Summers free throw and a dunk by junior forward Raymar Morgan tied the game at 60.

After Lucas made the free throw with 48.1 seconds left, Kansas’ Tyshawn Taylor calmly sank two free throws to bring the Jayhawks within one.

Lucas made two more free throws to extend MSU’s lead, while Collins missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Lucas ended the game with two more free throws to seal the game for the Spartans.

The dynamic Kansas duo of Sherron Collins (20 points) and Cole Aldrich (17 points, 13 rebounds) once again carried the bulk of the offense for the Jayhawks (27-8).
