MSU Football player pleads guilty

February 11, 2009

MSU football player Mitchell White pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an off-campus brawl in October at a pretrial hearing Wednesday at East Lansing’s 54-B District Court.

White, a freshman walk-on receiver, originally pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Dec. 23, 2008. White is set to be sentenced March 16, according to court documents.

The other MSU football player charged in the fight, freshman running back Glenn Winston, also had a pretrial hearing Wednesday, but details were not immediately available. Court officials said it did not appear Winston’s plea had changed from the not guilty plea he filed in December.

The charges against White and Winston stem from an Oct. 19, 2008, tussle outside of a house on Center Street that is home to members of the MSU hockey team. A.J. Sturges, a sophomore defenseman on the hockey team, was injured during the fracas and taken to the hospital with a concussion.

The MSU Athletics Department declined to comment on White’s status for the football team and Wednesday’s court proceedings.
