College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or fewer, at a new face on campus and his perspective of his new frontier.

1. How old are you?

2. Where is your hometown?
Holland, Mich.
3. What’s your major?
Zoology.
4. What interests you about zoology?
I’ve always been interested in animals and I want to go into marine biology in Australia.
5. Why Australia?
It’s got the Great Barrier Reef and it just has the most amount of fish.
6. How do you like living in West Akers Hall?
It’s OK. The dorms are kind of dirty, but besides that, I like the whole four-person (room arrangement).

7. Do you have a favorite cafeteria on campus?
Snyder-Phillips (Hall).
8. What is your favorite part about living on campus?
The location. I like being close to all my new friends. They’re two floors down or a dorm over. It’s nice just having them around to hang out.
9. Is there anything you don’t like about living on campus?
Getting homesick. I bet it’s pretty typical. I like animals a lot and you can’t really have any around. I miss my dog.

10. How do you like MSU so far?
I love it. I love everything about MSU. I’ve made a lot of really good friends and I’m involved in a lot of activities.
11. What are you involved in?
I’m a Young Life leader, and I’m also part of Spartan Christian Fellowship. I’m also part of the Relay for Life committee.
12. As a freshman, was it important to you to get involved?
Yes, one of my priorities was to stay involved in Young Life, so now that I’m into that, I love it.
13. Is there anything about the dorms you particularly dislike?
Yes, sometimes it’s hard to sleep when you need to sleep in the dorms.
14. What makes college better than high school?
More people you can relate to and less of the drama. It’s just more fun all together.
15. What is your favorite thing to eat in the cafeteria and why?
The salmon with the Jack Daniel’s sauce. They don’t usually have it that often and I like it because it doesn’t make me want to puke.
