Freshmen fifteen Q's

February 17, 2009

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions or less, at a new face on campus and his perspective of his new frontier.

MEET PAT RADEMACHER

1. You lived in Brody (Complex) last semester, why did you change dorms?

Last semester, I lived in Butterfield (Hall) and it’s the only hall with air conditioning. Most of the people who lived there are sophomores and up. Because of that, they had already found their niche and their groups of friends. It made it harder to socialize and I feel like I didn’t get the whole freshman experience.

2. How do you like it?

I like it a lot because I’ve made a lot of friends here. It’s also new and it has a new Sparty’s (Convenience Store). It’s fresh and clean.

3. Do you like living in South Complex better?
Yeah, a little bit. It’s not a huge difference. My classes are closer and I like the location better.

4. What do you think of MSU so far?

I love it. I think it’s amazing. Even though it’s really big, it was kind of hard to get used to at first with meeting friends and figuring out where everything is. It was also hard to get your routine down and manage your time. Once you get the hang of it, it’s the best college you could go to in the state of Michigan.

5. Have you faced any challenges?

Yeah, I would say fitting in, to a degree. Back in high school, you knew everybody and everybody knew you and it was easy. Then you come here, and you’re a little fish in a big pond.

6. What do you do to relax?

We managed to get a couch in our dorm room and it’s the comfiest couch ever. I lay down on the couch and it eats me, it absorbs me. Then, I just play Mega Man 9 on my Nintendo Wii.

7. What’s your favorite thing to do on campus?

I like going to big events and exploring the campus. There’s something going on everywhere. I like to go to the movies at Wells Hall. (University Activities Board) puts on some really sweet stuff. I went to (UAB’s) Price Is Right.

8. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I’m not 100 percent sure yet, but I’m leaning toward sound design for movies or anything that needs sound effects. *
9. Do you take the CATA bus and, if so, how does that work out?*

All the time. It’s up to par for the most part. Sometimes it’s late and sometimes they fill up and you can’t get on. It can throw you off. Overall, it’s pretty good.
