Worst “bad-titude”

This is a toss-up between Purdue’s Chris “Someone just stole my dog and tortured it in front of me” Kramer and Minnesota’s Spencer “Too big to move — or hug” Tollackson. But we give Kramer credit — he was named Big Ten defensive player of the year. Rumor has it that when he received the award, he bludgeoned the presenter with the trophy. Congrats, Chris!

Most underrated player

How do you spend five years as part of a nationally recognized program and fly somewhat under the radar for almost the duration? Drew Naymick figured out a way. The senior center spent most of his early years injury-riddled as the guy who was sort of just there in the post. This season, his game has become more complete. He’s developed a jump shot and will go down as one of the strongest defensive big men in the history of the program. The combination of his work ethic, knowledge of the game and resiliency are one of a kind.

Best single-game performance

There’s no better time to have your coming-out party than in front of a sold-out Palace of Auburn Hills, just miles away from your home, on national TV against one of the best teams and point guards in the country. Freshman guard Kalin Lucas introduced himself to the Spartan Nation in style — 18 points, six assists, six rebounds and one turnover against No. 6 Texas. Since then, Lucas hasn’t had any problems living up to the hype.

Best visiting coach

As a player at Indiana, Dane Fife was not widely liked by MSU fans. He was the type of player you loved to hate. Before going on to play at Indiana, Fife was the 1998 Mr. Basketball in Michigan, as well as a McDonald’s All-American. After that, he went on to become the youngest NCAA Division 1-A coach at IPFW. This season, when Fife’s team played the Spartans at Breslin Center, his post-game comments were witty, lighthearted and respectful. He recognized the great tradition behind MSU’s program in a way that he hoped to build in his own.

Worst uniform

We hesitate to call Oakland University’s outfits “uniforms” as we think they may have just been black and gold body paint.

Nike’s new look, with the mock jerseys and long, baggy shorts, doesn’t look too great on anybody — well, maybe it would on someone like Jessica Alba, but that’s about it. The 17-14 Golden Grizzlies just cannot and will never be able to pull it off.
