Wrestling team loses dual meets

The MSU wrestling team dropped two meets this weekend, losing 21-14 to No. 20 Pittsburgh and 29-7 to No. 18 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. The losses move MSU’s season record to 3-5-0 this season.

Junior Rex Kendle (165 pounds), senior Joe Williams, ranked No. 18 at 197 pounds, redshirt freshman Joel Trombly (125 pounds) and sophomore Franklin Gomez, No. 3-ranked at 133 pounds, all won their matches against the Panthers, while Gomez and junior John Murphy (174 pounds) were the only Spartans to win a match against the Sooners.

In the only MSU match that featured two ranked wrestlers, Oklahoma’s No. 5-ranked Joel Flaggert defeated Williams 3-2 in the 197-pound weight class.

MSU doesn’t wrestle again until Jan. 25, when the team will open its the Big Ten season at home against No. 6-ranked Minnesota at 7 p.m.
