Freshmen fifteen Q's

College is a whole new world for many freshmen traveling campus for the first time. The State News sat down with one of these brave explorers to get a glimpse, in 15 questions, at a new face on campus and a perspective on her new frontier.

Meet Katie Secord

1. Where are you from?

Lansing

2. Where are you living this year?

Snyder-Phillips Hall

3. What is your major?

Arts and humanities

4. Did you know your roommate before school started?

Yes, she is my best friend from high school.

5. How many credits are you taking?

14 credits

6. How does your workload this year compare to what you were used to in high school?

It’s a lot more relaxed because I don’t have to go to the same classes every day.

7. Are you interested in participating in any of the clubs or sports MSU has to offer? Which ones?

I’m thinking about joining the acting troupe, Residential Option In Arts and Letters.

8. What is your favorite part about living in the dorms?*

Being in a community and not having too many rules.

9. What measures do you take to make sure you don’t get lost on campus?

There’s nothing to do in Lansing so I would always come here. I know the campus pretty well.

10. How do you like the cafeteria food in your dorm?

We are lucky to have the best caf on campus. I really like the turkey.

11. What is the worst part about living in the dorms?

I live on a floor with a community bathroom and it gets really gross sometimes.

12. How do you usually get around campus?

I skateboard a lot, if I’m not walking.

13. What is your favorite restaurant near campus?

Sushi Ya. I love sushi.

14. How do you kill time in your dorm room?

15. What is one thing you would not survive at MSU without?

My iPod.
