Free jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. at Hart Recital Hall as part of the MSU School of Music Jazz Spectacular. Ingrid Jensen will play the trumpet in the "Celebrating Women in Jazz" show, hosted by Sunny Wilkinson, with Marion Hayden, Ellen Rowe and Gayelynn McKinney.

WEDNESDAY:

FRIDAY-SUNDAY:

"Capote" will be shown at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. in Wells Hall. "Fun with Dick and Jane" will play at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. in Wells Hall and at 8 p.m. on Friday in the Conrad Auditorium.

"Paradise Now" will play at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in Wells Hall and at 8 p.m. on Saturday in Conrad Auditorium. "King Kong" will play at 8 p.m. in Wells Hall.

FRIDAY:

The following movies open in theaters. "V for Vendetta," starring Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman and Rupert Graves. It's directed by James McTeigue and is rated R.

"She's the Man," starring Amanda Bynes, Laura Ramsey and Channing Tatum. It's directed by Andy Fickman and is rated PG-13.


ARTS

FRIDAY:

STOMP makes some noise at Wharton Center this weekend. The eight-member group uses found objects in the show. Performances are March 17-19 in Cobb Great Hall. Student tickets are $25 and $25-45 for the public. For more information, call 1-800-WHARTON.

SATURDAY:

Lansing Chamber Dance will perform March 18 at 8 p.m. and March 19 at 2 p.m. in the Dart Auditorium of Lansing Community College. For more information, call (517) 694-7667.

SUNDAY:

Plays written by six high school students will be directed and performed by MSU Department of Theatre students at a free public performance at 3 p.m. Sunday in Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre. A second performance will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday. Reservations for the second show must be made by calling (517) 353-1982 ext. 141. The high school students are finalists in this year's Young Playwrights Festival.


MISCELLANEOUS

TODAY:

The 10th Annual Lansing Home & Garden Show takes place at the MSU Pavilion. The event will feature Peter Walsh from the series "Clean Sweep" on The Learning Channel. The show is on Thursday from 3 to 9:30 p.m., Friday noon to 9:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children under 14 and free for children five and under. FRIDAY:

Irish dancers will perform at 4:30 p.m. at Meridian Mall near Old Navy. The dancers are students of Quinn's School of Irish Dance and will do a traditional Irish step dance to Celtic music.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY:

Forty-five vehicles from six area dealers will be on display at Meridian Mall in a car show. The cars are all 2006 models.

SUNDAY:

Ahmed Kathrada, a former political prisoner and anti-apartheid activist, will be on campus from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to do a reading and signing of his book, "Memoirs." The event will be held at the main gallery of the MSU Museum and is the first stop on Kathrada's six-city tour.

"One Arab. One Jew. One Stage." is at 8 p.m. in the International Center. Ahmed Ahmed and Bob Alper will perform stand-up comedy. Free tickets can be picked up with a student ID at room 322 of the Union or in the ASMSU Business Office in the Student Services Building.

MONDAY:

The Dark Star Silver Jewelry Sale begins March 20 at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily in the Union until March 26.
