Wrestlers downed in weekend matches

The MSU wrestling team suffered two losses this weekend.

On Saturday, the No. 20 Spartans (4-8 overall, 1-4 Big Ten) lost 32-6 to No. 4 Oklahoma State (18-3) at the Fowlerville Junior High gymnasium.

Sunday the team lost 30-6 to No. 9 Missouri (13-2) at the Hearnes Center, Columbia, Mo. The Tigers dominated the match, winning the first four bouts, en route to an early 12-0 lead.

MSU hosts Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Jenison Field House.

Men’s tennis matches last year’s record with wins

The men’s tennis team defeated Louisville and Valparaiso on Sunday.

The Spartans (7-1 overall) upset No. 51 Louisville (3-5) 4-3, then followed it up with a 6-1 win over Valparaiso (1-3).

MSU has already equaled last season’s record of 7-18.

The Spartans have a short break before traveling on Feb. 23 to South Bend, Ind., to play No. 10 Notre Dame.
