Hip-hop culture event a success

Although Kangol hats and shell-toe Adidas weren’t a requirement, they definitely were a thought as urban hip-hop beats oozed out of the speakers in Wonders Hall.MSU students got a taste of hip-hop culture and a chance to celebrate its origins Wednesday night.Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. sponsored Hip-hop Ecstasy Night which included break dancing, freestyle rapping and an old school dance contest.

U passes SN tax increase, continues other elections

MSU students will pay an additional dollar for The State News beginning in the fall. When the votes from last week’s election were tallied, 501 students voted in favor of the increase, 418 opposed it and six students abstained from voting during the 2002 student tax referendum. The increase upped the tax from $4 to $5 per semester and is the first increase in 13 years.
