The MSU men’s golf team put together a second-place effort Wednesday at the Adams Cup of Newport, in Newport, R.I.

Out of 17 schools, New Mexico claimed the top spot with a three round score of 854, seven strokes lower than MSU’s 861.

The Spartans ended the first round in 13th with a score of 295, but returned with scores of 281 in the second round and 285 in the final round. Both scores tied for first for the day.

Junior John Koskinen and sophomore J.J. Beckstrom tied for fifth among individuals with scores of 214 over the three rounds.

Freshman Andrew Ruthkoski also finished in the top 20 for MSU with a score of 218.

The Spartans led the field in pars with 174 and tallied 35 birdies.
