Hall named captain

June 14, 2001
Sophomore goaltender Ryan Miller and junior right wing Adam Hall celebrate their CCHA championship following a 3-1 win over Michigan Thursday night at Munn Arena.

In this situation, “C” follows directly after “A.”

MSU hockey coach Ron Mason announced Wednesday that senior right wing Adam Hall will be the team’s captain for the 2001-02 season. The move will change the “A” Hall sported on the left breast of his jersey while serving as an assistant captain last season to a captain’s “C.”

“Adam is the consummate leader,” Mason said in a released statement. “His selection as captain is a near-unanimous choice of the players and coaches.”

Hall’s selection as team captain was a rite of passage for the high-scoring forward from Kalamazoo. Mason said Hall is part of a great lineage of MSU captains before him.

“He follows in the footsteps of (former captains) Tyler Harlton, Mike York, Shawn Horcoff and Rustyn Dolyny as leaders who not only command respect on the ice, but in the locker room and in the classroom,” Mason said in the statement.

Last season, Hall finished second on the team in goals with 18 and ranked third on MSU’s scoring list with 30 points in 42 games. He led the Spartans with two shorthanded goals and he finished third on the team with seven power play tallies. Hall has amassed 60 goals and 32 assists for 92 points in his 118 games and three years as a Spartan.

He was also named to the 2001 Academic All-Big Ten team.

Hall’s assistant captains will be chosen this summer.
