Lagoon grabs audiences attention

Creeper Lagoon

Take Back The Universe and Give Me Yesterday

DreamWorks Records

Creeper Lagoon is nothing more than a modern-day rock band with a clever ability to intrigue the listener simply by being.

And not all of the band’s songs sound the same.

Sure, it adds some clever effects on songs like “Sunfair,” but overall this band is exactly what America needs more of - a band that does its thing then steps aside.

At the same time, its lyrical hooks are super sweet indeed.

The vocals sound faintly like Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers -but the background music is a heck of a lot better than those unwatered weeds.

“She Loves Me Not,” is a folky acoustic guitar, with the hint of a tambourine guiding it along, while “Up All Night” is a short tune with a dose of Everclear mixed in.

The guitar pattern of “Naked Days” strongly resembles a Radiohead string pattern, but reaches its own identity when the chorus breaks in.

A violin also slithers between notes at points, giving the song a confident radio-esque feel.

The vocals seem to have been recorded a bit low during the mixing and mastering process. But it doesn’t affect the overall enjoyment of the record.

Each song has its own attitude, whether it be soft and melodic or edgy and rebellious.

“Under The Tracks” sounds out of place, condoning a bit more of a skippity-do tone, while “Dead Man Saloon” has some well-written guitar overdubs with some wicked effects.

The drums are the vanishing point on “Keep From Moving,” setting the tone of the song with every bitter tap of nylon on the ride cymbal and the sloppy distortion of the bass drum.

The bass work goes on some inconceivable tangents during the album’s final track “Here We Are.” By far the gem of the record, this song has it all - a steady beat, amazing harmonization, a simple guitar riff, tricky bass lines and some orchestrated instruments seeping through the mix.

Look for these guys to rapidly creep up the charts with their simple, yet effective trances.
