Granholm announces plan to restore Michigan Promise Scholarship

February 3, 2010

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced Wednesday her plan to restore funding for the Michigan Promise Scholarship in her 2011 budget.

The announcement came as part of the governor’s final State of the State address.

“I am announcing that my budget for the year ahead will restore the Michigan Promise Scholarship, identify a creative way to pay for it, and give it a new focus – keeping our young people in Michigan when they earn their degrees,” she planned to say during the address.

The scholarship was cut last year, leaving about 8,200 MSU students without the financial assistance. The scholarship provided up to $4,000 for each student.
