By Brittany Shammas (Last updated: 10/21/09 11:42pm)

E.L. man returns hefty amount of cash

A homeless man who stumbled across a significant sum of money Monday could have kept it, but instead turned it into police.

Known to the East Lansing Police Department only as “John,” the man frequents East Lansing and found the money near Lot 1, East Lansing police Capt. Tom Johnstone said.

Police ask anyone who lost a substantial amount of money to contact the department at (517) 351-4220 with detailed information.

Way to go “John”. Apparently there are some decent people in this world.

This is amazing. A homeless person stumbles across a substantial amount of money, and turns it in? You know how much that could have helped him (food, booze, whatever)? For someone to be honest in the face of those kind of circumstances, that’s truly showing a lot of character. Whoever claims this money, please give like half of it back to “John” since you’re lucky to get any of it back. Or at least do something really, really nice for him.
