Police brief 09/23/09

By Brittany Shammas (Last updated: 09/22/09 11:47pm)

Bicyclist causes 2-car collision in E.L.

Minor damage was caused to two vehicles when they collided at about 8:54 p.m. Wednesday on Red Cedar Road, about 20 feet south of Wilson Road, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Taylor said the first vehicle, a black 2000 Ford Explorer driven by a 21-year-old man from St. Charles, Ill., was forced to stop suddenly when a bicyclist crossed in front of it. The second vehicle, a 2007 Kia driven by a 34-year-old Lansing man, was unable to stop quickly enough and struck the back of the first vehicle.

There were no injuries, but both cars received minor damage and the driver of the Ford Explorer was held responsible. The bicyclist, whose identity is not known, was not on the scene when police arrived.

Why was the driver of the explorer held responsible? The person that did the rear ending is supposed to be at fault, they have to keep a safe distance from the car in front of them. I know this because I’ve been rear ended twice, and they always gave the ticket to the other person.

Easy answer. 1.) Out of state license lets the state get money faster. LOL And 2.) He had more insurance? LOL OR, maybe we are missing some info like…Explorer driver was doing something other than driving/attention fault such as on the phone or texting? Just guesses.
