MSU outfielder named summer league MVP
By Cash Kruth (Last updated: 09/20/09 8:45pm)MSU senior outfielder Eli Boike was named Most Valuable Player of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League this summer after leading the league in hits and stolen bases.
Boike, a Clinton Township native, played for the Bethesda (Md.) Big Train, leading the league with 56 hits — a .371 average — and 18 stolen bases. He also finished second in the league with a .450 on-base percentage, second in runs scored (44) and second in total bases (78).
In 39 starts for the Big Train, Boike failed to reach base in just two games, while posting 17 multi-hit games, including three 3-hit games and two 4-hit games. He also posted an 11-game hitting streak.
As a junior with the Spartans during the spring, Boike hit .310 with a team-high eight home runs.
