Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) held a rally for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Thursday afternoon at Adams Field.

Chants of "Bernie, Bernie, Bernie" were heard throughout the rally.

Sanders previously visited MSU while on the campaign trail in March.

He first endorsed Clinton at the Democratic National Convention in July.

Sanders spoke about rights for women, the LGBT community and the homeless population. He also emphasized the importance of voting and that college tuition debt needs to be reduced.

"We are voting for the president of the United States, the most powerful elected position in the world," Sanders said.

The fact that he stressed the importance of voting was really great, music education freshman Juliana Rowley said.

"You get a vote, you get a vote, you get a vote," Sanders said. "Democracy is not about billionaires buying elections."

Attending the rally was a once in a lifetime experience, international relations freshman Clarisse Becker said.

"I think the best part was seeing how enthusiastic everyone was," music education freshman Ashely Wright said.

Sanders also talked about how important it is that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not elected president.

MSU alumna and East Lansing resident Valerie Thonger said she attended the rally to hear Sen. Sanders' putdowns of Trump.

"We cannot have a president that disrespects women," Sanders said. "Our job is to bring people together, not to allow Trump to divide us up."

Research the candidates before you vote, and please don't vote for Trump, communication senior Margeaux Koepele said.

"Whoever the president is, is really important, but senators and representatives have a really heavy say in what happens," Koepele said. "That's something we forget about."

She said she came to the rally because she wanted to hear the person she was planning to vote for endorse someone else.

The rally was a positive and enlightening experience, video programming sophomore Dominic Natoli said.

"I feel more confident with my vote for Hillary (because of the rally)," vocal performance freshman Lucille Sears said.
