Three MSU sports teams have been recognized with the NCAA Public Recognition Award for having outstanding performance in the classroom, MSU announced in a press release Wednesday.

The announcement comes a few weeks after 58 Spartan student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.

The Spartan teams recognized were the men's basketball team, the men's cross country team and the women's golf team. These teams were recognized for posting Academic Progress Rate, or APR, scores in the top 10 percent in their sport, according to the press release.

According to the NCAA website, the APR "holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term."

The press release said the most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
