Groundbreaking for the housing complex that will replace Spartan Village Apartments will take place this Friday at 3 p.m. on the corner of Kalamazoo St. and Harrison road, across from the Breslin Center.

President Lou Anna K. Simon and MSU Trustee Melanie Foster will be in attendance at the ceremony for the new student housing complex.

The complex will have space for 244 units with varying two to four bedroom layouts as well as studio apartments. In addition, there will be 60 one bedroom apartments and 129 two bedroom apartments complete with family space.

Recreational space, administrative offices, event parking, and retail space will be included as well.

The project is estimated to cost $156 million, but will not raise tuition at all.

Student family units will be completed in the Fall of 2016, with the rest of the project to be concluded in the fall of 2017.
