Bomb threat on campus hoax, secure in place lifted

UPDATE, 3:35 p.m.: Per MSU Alert system, "police traced multiple sources of information and determined threat was a hoax.  Secure in place cancelled."


MSU police have sent out an alert of a bomb threat on campus, and are urging students to stay where they are with a secure in place. No location for the threat has been specified. 

MSU officials said they could not respond to initial requests for further information.

At residence halls, front desks are being closed and staff are being gathered as per university policy.

An officer at the MSU police department said "there is an investigation ongoing," but no more information could be released at "such an early stage." The officer could not say how the threat was made or if a search of campus was being conducted.

Across campus, students have remained in university buildings while police investigate, some buildings have doors locked while in others, students reported on social media that were able to freely leave.
