Defensive line coach Gill won't return for 2013 season

January 25, 2013

Ted Gill has worked as a defensive football coach for nearly 40 years, but Friday it was announced that his time at MSU has come to a close.

The Spartans’ defensive line coach for the past six seasons will not return next season after his contract expires on March 31, according to a statement from Associate Athletics Director John Lewandowski.

The reason for the decision is not yet known and MSU has yet to name a replacement.

Gill has worked under MSU head coach Mark Dantonio for nine years, including three years at Cincinnati before arriving at MSU, and Dantonio recognized Gill’s work in a statement released by the athletics department.

“Ted Gill’s contract runs through March 31, 2013, and will not be renewed,” Dantonio said. “He has been a contributing member of my coaching staff for nine years, including the last six seasons here at Michigan State. I wish Ted the best in his future endeavors.”
