MSU student finds identity through dance
Biochemistry senior Abhinav Anand performs an original dance at the Sri Sharadamba Temple in Farmington Hills, Mich. on March 8, 2026. Anand dances in the south Indian Bharatanatyam style reacting ancient Hindu myths with modern-day contexts. As a man in a traditionally feminine art form, Anand finds his identity through his art and the support from his friends and family.
MFA candidate brings ecological art to the Broad Art Museum
Hailey Becker is finishing her master's of fine arts by exhibiting her original piece titled “An oracle is useless unless she is poisoned,” in Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum's MFA exhibition. Becker is also pursuing a Ph.D. in forestry and uses her background in science to inform her artistic decisions.

Sustainable Spartans host trash pickup competition commemorating Earth Month
Every semester Sustainable Spartans hosts a trash pick-up competition where club members spend an hour picking up litter around campus for the chance to win a free scoop of ice cream from the Dairy Store. Sustainable Spartans is a project-based student led organization with the goal of making MSU more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Professor and World Champion Ron Southwick keeps the legacy of taekwondo at MSU alive
MSU professor and United States taekwondo nation team gold medal champion Ron Southwick runs the taekwondo club in IM West every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Southwick has been leading the taekwondo club for over 25 years without compensation because of his passion for the sport and teaching. He took a taekwondo class as a student at MSU, and when he heard his former professor was retiring, he volunteered to take his place to save the program. Now, Southwick teaches students at all different levels, from white belts to other world champions.
