Penn State defeats MSU wrestling team in weekend matchup

In its first look at competition in three weeks, the MSU wrestling team was routed by No. 4 Penn State 36-6 at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Mich. The only points of the day for the Spartans (2-3 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) came when Nittany Lion Nico Megaludis was disqualified for using an illegal move on senior 125-pounder Eric Olanowski, awarding six points to MSU.

Wrestling falls to Eastern Michigan

The MSU wrestling team fell in its first dual meet of the season to Eastern Michigan on Friday, 20-16. Although the Spartans (0-1) lost the meet, five Spartan wrestlers were able to pick up a win. Winning for the Spartans were junior 149-pounder Dan Osterman, senior 165-pounder Anthony Jones Jr., senior 184-pounder Ian Hinton, senior 197-pounder Tyler Dickenson and sophomore heavyweight Michael McClure. Wrestling competes at MSU Open

More than 600 wrestlers from more than 29 schools throughout the country attended the the MSU Open on Saturday at Jenison Field House, competing in either the open or the freshman/sophomore division.

The renovations — about $500,000 worth of improvements — were funded by a donation by Bob Skandalaris, who is an alumnus and frequent donor to MSU. The renovations include new paint jobs, new bleacher and chair-back seating, scoreboards and a video board, Deputy Athletics Director Greg Ianni said.

MSU struggles in matches against ranked foes

Opening the weekend on Friday hosting No. 11 Michigan, the Spartans (9-9 overall, 1-8 Big Ten) fought for a comeback before losing their final two matches with a technical fall for redshirt freshman 133-pounder Chris Lyon and a pin against redshirt freshman 141-pounder Levi Stace.
